There’s good news for John Carpenter fans (like my self) as Fabulous Films has announced that they will be releasing a limited edition of Dark Star on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray.
This exclusive edition, priced at £45.99, is currently available for pre-order directly from the Fabulous Films website. Notably, this release offers a unique collectible in the form of a Dark Star mission sew-on patch, packaged in a beautifully designed clamshell and o-ring format.
However it is limited to just 500 copies.

This release really should be the ultimate edition of this sci-fi cult classic. The film has had a new 4K restoration, restored from the original 35mm film reels.
The soundtrack has also had some attention, it has been digitally enhanced and fully restored in Dolby Digital 5.1″.
The film originally started out as a 72 minute USC student film before being expanded into a theatrical release. John Carpenter and Dan O’Bannon added an extra 15 minutes to make it into the film we know to today.

This new release comes with both the ‘Original 72-minute Director’s Cut’ and the ‘Expanded Theatrical Release 84-minutes’.

I love this wacky comedy science fiction from John Carpenter and Dan O’Bannon. It certainly deserves its cult classic status in my opinion.
I’ve already pre-ordered my copy but the real question is, have you?
There’s sure to be the standard version coming to Amazon.co.uk and HMV soon but even this limited edition is yet to have a confirmed date other than October.
