Last week’s physical media releases were plentiful, meanwhile the first week of September seems a little quieter. Still there a few interesting new releases including 4K versions of Captain Philips (2013), Double Indemnity (1944) and a Taxi Driver (1976) Steelbook.

Double Indemnity (1944) – 4K UHD + Blu-ray (Criterion)
The Criterion Collection start off September with a classic film noir offering with Double Indemnity, directed by Billy Wilder. It stars Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward G. Robinson and Byron Barr.
This release is a “New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack”.
If you don’t already have this title on Blu-ray you may wish to add this to your movie collection.

This is probably a film for the film buffs out there, as its from director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) / Dune (2021) / Dune Part Two (2024).

The highlight for Monday 2nd September 2024’s Blu-ray releases has to be the Criterion Collection’s 4K release of Double Indemnity (1944).
Warner Bros has a few archive titles listed for release, but I’m not certain they will actually arrive on the 2nd Sept.
