One of my favourite films, Stand By Me is back in UK cinemas this weekend to celebrate its 40th Anniversary.
Stand by Me (1986) is a coming of age drama film based on Stephen King’s 1982 novella ‘The Body’.
However credit for the film’s success must go down in large part to director Rob Reiner. He takes a relatively simply story and turns it into true masterpiece.
The film stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland.
Plot

It follows four 12 year old friends, Gordie, Chris, Vern and Teddy as they set out to find a boy missing from a neighbouring town’s body.
Teddy, overhears a conversation from his older brother, Billy, and his pal Charlie discussing the missing boy.
Billy and Charlie found the boy’s body in a wooded area near train tracks but couldn’t notify police without it exposing the fact they were driving a stolen car.
Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern decide to find the body believing that it will make them local heroes.
In UK Cinemas Friday
Stand By Me is due in cinemas from 10th April 2026, check you local cinema for times.
