Sci-fi Classic Dark City 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Releases June 2025

Arrow Video will release the science fiction cult classic film, Dark City on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in June 2025 for the UK.

This is a limited edition release that comes packed full of extras such as ‘Limited Edition Packaging’, ‘Double Sided Poster’, 60 Page Perfect Bound Collectors Book’ and ‘Art Cards’.

Arrow say the is a “Brand new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negatives approved by director of photography Dariusz Wolski”.

Dark City (1998) is a sci-fi thriller written and directed by Alex Proyas. The film stars Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, Richard O’Brien, Ian Richardson and William Hurt.

Plot

When John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) awakens alone in a strange hotel he finds that he is wanted for a series of brutal murders. Is he responsible? He has no memory of these events and must piece together his past.

In doing so he discovers a group of beings known as The Strangers that possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants.

Budget / Reception

The film had a budget said to be around $27 million, however it only managed an estimated $27 million at the box office.

A quick look over on Rotten Tomatoes reveals the film was well received by both audiences and critics. It currently has a a Tomatometer score of 77% (Critics) & Popcornmeter 85% (Audience) as of the time of writing.

I really can’t recommend this movie enough, if you love a proper science fiction film, like I do, then you should give this one a look. It manages to brilliantly blend sci-fi with film noir.
