If looks like the BBC are gearing up to make it a a great Christmas for us with the release of The Box of Delights Blu-ray which is coming at the end of November 2024. It has been remastered, so fingers crossed it look absolutely amazing!
The Box of Delights is a classic BBC children’s television series from 1984 based on John Masefield story. It stars Devin Stanfield, Patrick Troughton and Robert Stephens.
Table of Contents
Set in 1934, Kay Harker (Devin Stanfield) is returning home for Christmas from boarding school on the train. It’s whilst on the station platform he encounters an old Punch and Judy man called Cole Hawlings (Patrick Troughton).
However this is no ordinary Punch and Judy man, as he has a magical box he calls the box of delights!
I try to watch The Box Of Delights every Christmas, it’s simply magical and must watch. The BBC really don’t make anything like this any more which is real shame. I cannot wait to see how the new version on Blu-ray compares to the original DVD version.
I should also mention this new version is also getting a new DVD release on the same day.

The BBC say “The Box of Delights’ is remastered, including brand-new special features.” There currently no artwork for the Blu-ray but it is available to pre-order now. I’ll add the artwork as soon as it is available.
