Universal Pictures has given a September 2025 release date for M3GAN 2.0 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD editions in the UK.
M3GAN 2.0 (2025) is a sci-fi horror film sequel to 2022’s MEGAN. Written and directed by Gerard Johnstone, the film stars Allison Williams, Jermaine Clement, Violet McGraw and Jenna Davis.

The first movie cost a reported $12 million to make and took an impressive $181.8 million at the box office. Meanwhile M3GAN 2.0 had a budget said to be between $15-25 million but only managed just $39.1 million at the box office.
So what did the film critics and cinema audiences think of both movies? The first instalment received a Tomatometer score of 93% (Critics) & Popcornmeter 78% (Audience).
Meanwhile the sequel managed Tomatometer score of 58% (Critics) & Popcornmeter 82% (Audience) on with Rotten Tomatoes.
I said several times, but not every movie needs a sequel but the film studio executives build their entire businesses around that very model. Make a one well received film and the throw out several sequels in quick succession.
Horror films always seem to receive way too many sequels and I love the horror genre. However there are plenty of other examples from other genres.
One that springs to mind is Joker (2019), clearly a standalone film. The problem it did incredibly well at the box office meaning the suits want a sequel, enter Joker: Folie à Deux in 2024 and we all know well that was received by cinema audiences!
