It’s time for another Arrow Video release with an Italian horror film directed by Lucio Fulci. So without further ado here’s my City of the Living Dead (1980) blu-ray review.
- City of the Living Dead (1980)
- Genre: Horror
- Directed by Lucio Fulci
- UK Rating 18
- Discs: 1
- Released By Arrow Video
- Blu-ray Released: 8 October 2018
Plot
A medium during a séance in New York City sees the vision of a priest hanging himself from a tree. However the vision is so shocking it causes her to collapse. The town in which this hanging occurred is called Dunwich and following this vision she senses a feeling of foreboding and insists on investigating.
Style / Direction
The film is directed by Lucio Fulci with the cinematography handled by Sergio Salvati. It’s a stylish and creepy looking film which bodes well for a film of this type. Plus this is an Italian horror from a director that creates a very unique feeling film.

The music is composed by Fabio Frizzi.

The acting is average although clearly dubbed so that makes it somewhat harder to judge.

Conclusion: City of the Living Dead (1980) Blu-ray Review
The film has undergone a 4K restoration by Arrow Films and looks amazing. The picture quality is simply perfect so credit to Arrow for releasing such an outstanding Bluray release. On the extras front there’s a ton of stuff although much of it is subtitled and kind of hard going. But that’s my only gripe and I wouldn’t expect them to dub them. That said with some many extras to go through there is always a point when there are simply too many extras with many not particulary interesting.
